Abdulrahman Nasiri: The Evolving Role of Romiplostim in SAA
Abdulrahman Nasiri, Assistant Professor at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Annals of Hematology, adding:
“Honored to share that our comprehensive clinical review, ՛Romiplostim in the Management of Severe Aplastic Anemia,՛ has been accepted for publication in Annals of Hematology.
Severe aplastic anemia remains one of the most challenging bone marrow failure disorders in hematology, particularly for patients who relapse, remain transfusion dependent, or are not candidates for transplantation.
In this review, we explored the expanding role of romiplostim across multiple treatment settings, including:
- Frontline therapy combined with immunosuppressive treatment
- Relapsed and refractory severe aplastic anemia
- Eltrombopag-refractory disease
- Pediatric aplastic anemia
- Long-term safety and clonal evolution data
Across 19 studies involving more than 390 patients, romiplostim demonstrated promising hematologic responses, meaningful rates of trilineage recovery, and encouraging durability of response.
The growing evidence suggests that romiplostim is evolving from a salvage option into a potentially important component of modern aplastic anemia management.
Proud to contribute to this rapidly evolving field alongside an outstanding team of collaborators and mentors led by Dr. Mostafa Faisal Mohammed Saleh.”
