Noemy E. Diaz-Burgos: Taking Care of Yourself First
Noemy E. Diaz-Burgos, LSAC Plus Scholar, Assistant Teaching Professor at FIU, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Nobody tells you that a bleed might show up mid-congress – but that’s just life with a bleeding disorder.
After a night of celebrating at the World Federation of Hemophilia Congress opening ceremony, the dancing caught up with me.
It was the incredible people I had met so far from around the world who encouraged me to stop, go to the treatment center right there at the KLCC, and get the care I needed and deserved.
Sometimes, the most powerful thing this community does is remind you to take care of yourself first.
Once I was taken care of, it was back to the magic.
Over coffee, I connected with the Philippines bleeding disorders community and found myself marveling at how much our cultures share — from family dynamics to the way we show up for our communities.
Those are the conversations that stay with you.
The day also brought encounters with incredible people from Costa Rica, India, Mexico, China, and beyond, plus a walk through the medical posters where the latest research and innovations in bleeding disorders were on full display.
It’s evident that the future of this community is bright.
And when the day wound down, I stepped outside and found myself alone under the Petronas Towers, just taking it all in.
More to come…”
