Shabeeha Ranna: Improving Cancer Care Through Venous Thromboembolism Risk Assessment and Prevention

Shabeeha Ranna, Consultant Hematologist at King’s College Hospital London, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article She and her colleagues co-authored, published in BMC Cancer, adding:

“I am delighted to share our latest publication:

‘Risk Assessment and Management of Thromboembolism in Cancer Patients: A Single-Centre Retrospective Study.’

Cancer-associated thrombosis remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in patients with cancer.

Early recognition of thromboembolic risk, timely diagnosis, and evidence-based management are essential to improving patient outcomes.

This study reinforces the importance of proactive risk assessment and highlights the value of a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together oncology, haematology, pharmacy, nursing, and allied healthcare professionals to deliver optimal patient care.

I am especially proud that this project was led by a Research Intern at King’s College Hospital Dubai, demonstrating the impact that early research opportunities and strong mentorship can have in advancing clinical practice.

It has been a privilege to support a project that not only contributes to the growing evidence base in cancer-associated thrombosis but also showcases the talent and dedicationof our emerging clinical researchers.

A sincere thank you to all co-authors, mentors, and collaborators whose expertise and commitment made this work possible.

I hope these findings encourage continued efforts to improve awareness, risk stratification, and multidisciplinary management of thromboembolism in patients with cancer.”
