RPTH Journal shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Jo Jerrome et al, published in RPTH Journal, adding:
“Many patients with VTE don’t follow the textbook.
The DETECT-VTE audit of UK general practice found that nearly half of VTE diagnoses were initiated in primary care, yet 62 percent of patients had multiple healthcare visits before diagnosis.
While classic symptoms such as a swollen painful calf or breathlessness remained common, presentations varied widely, including asymptomatic cases, many detected during cancer investigations.
A timely reminder that VTE should remain on the differential, even when the presentation is atypical or vital signs are normal.”
