Zain Khalpey: Atrial Fibrillation as the Hidden Driver of Preventable Ischemic Stroke
Zain Khalpey, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia and a major cause of preventable ischemic stroke.
The irregular rhythm allows blood to pool in the left atrium, increasing the risk of clot formation and embolic stroke.
Early diagnosis, appropriate anticoagulation, and management of cardiovascular risk factors are essential to reducing stroke risk and improving long term outcomes.
Recognizing and treating AF remains one of the most effective strategies in stroke prevention.”
