Andreas Calatzis: What is the Rationale for Collagen-Induced Platelet Aggregation Testing?
Andreas Calatzis, Managing Director of Eonis GmbH and Dynabyte GmbH, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What is the rationale for collagen-induced platelet aggregation testing?
When we developed the Multiplate analyzer more than 20 years ago, collagen was one of the available agonists alongside ADP, arachidonic acid and TRAP-6.
Although the collagen reagent was used by many laboratories, I never fully understood why it was used.
With the IVDR, manufacturers are expected to define a clear intended purpose and demonstrate the analytical and clinical performance of the device.
So I’d be interested in hearing the community’s views:
- Does collagen-induced platelet aggregation still have a meaningful role alongside ADP, arachidonic acid and TRAP-6?
- If so, what could the intended use actually be?
The answer to the second question will immediately lead to the next one:
Can this intended use be demonstrated in analytical and clinical performance studies?
I’d be very interested to hear how clinicians, laboratory physicians and researchers see the role of collagen-induced platelet aggregation today.”
