Doruntina Lahu: Prasugrel and Ticagrelor – Does Sex Matter?

Doruntina Lahu, PHD Student at TUM University Hospital German Heart Center, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, adding:

“I’m pleased to share that our research article, ‘Sex-Dependent Platelet Inhibition with Prasugrel and Ticagrelor after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Acute Coronary Syndromes,’ has been published in Thrombosis and Haemostasis.

Our study evaluated sex-specific differences in platelet inhibition with prasugrel and ticagrelor in patients with acute coronary syndromes undergoing PCI.

We found that women exhibited stronger platelet inhibition after a loading dose of prasugrel than men, whereas no sex-related differences were observed with ticagrelor.

These findings highlight the importance of considering biological sex when optimizing antiplatelet therapy.

I am especially grateful to my PhD supervisor, Prof. Dr. Adnan Kastrati, for their continuous mentorship, guidance, and support.”
