“New Research on Glanzmann Thrombasthenia.
Did you know doctors can use a special blood test called flow cytometry to learn more about how your platelets work?
For people with Glanzmann Thrombasthenia (GT), this test can help:
Confirm a GT diagnosis.
Measure how well platelets are working.
Identify different types of platelet activity that may improve research and future care.
This new 2026 review explains that flow cytometry has become one of the most important laboratory tools for studying platelet disorders like GT.
Researchers also note that many hospitals still don’t routinely perform these specialized tests, meaning access remains limited in some areas.
As technology improves, these tests may help doctors better understand rare bleeding disorders and continue advancing research for the GT community.”
