Intravenous Arginine Fails to Reduce Acute Sickle Cell Pain – JAMA
JAMA shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Shaniqua J. Anum and Julie Kanter, adding:
”Acute pain episodes in Sickle Cell Disease remain a leading cause of emergency department visits and hospitalization, yet treatment still relies largely on opioids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and intravenous fluids.
The STArT trial of intravenous Arginine found no overall benefit vs placebo, and heterogeneity in acute pain mechanisms and trial end points may have limited detection of a vascular-targeted treatment effect.”
