Leslie Iverson: What Does a Zero CAC Score Really Mean?

Leslie Iverson, Cardiovascular Prevention and Research Clinician at Intermountain Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, adding:

”Excited to share our newly published paper in the Journal of Clinical Medicine:

‘Ischemic Risk in Patients with Zero Coronary Artery Calcium Undergoing Stress PET/CT Testing’

In this study of more than 5,000 patients with CAC of 0 undergoing stress PET/CT, we found that significant ischemia and obstructive CAD were uncommon, confirming the generally excellent prognosis associated with the absence of coronary calcium. At the same time, our findings highlight that a zero CAC score does not completely exclude clinically important coronary disease, and PET imaging can provide important complementary risk stratification.

I am grateful to have worked with such an outstanding team, and especially thankful to Dr. Jeffrey Anderson for leading this important work.”
