Ohanna Cavalcanti Bezerra: Why Does DVT Lead to PE in Some Patients but Not Others?
Ohanna Cavalcanti Bezerra, Postdoctoral Fellow in (Epi)Genomics at Data Sciences Institute, University of Toronto and Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, VESS Organizing Committee Member at Atlas of Variant Effects Alliance, Member of CANSSI Ontario, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, adding:
“Why do some people who develop a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) go on to experience a pulmonary embolism (PE), while others do not?
Our study suggests that genetics plays a role in the development of PE among individuals with a presumed DVT, although the overall genetic effect appears to be modest.”
