Thomas Pincez: Clonal Hematopoiesis Linked to Increased Risk of Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia

Thomas Pincez, Adjunct Professor at McGill University, Assistant Professor at University of Montreal, Clinician-Scientist at Azrieli Research Centre of CHU Sainte-Justine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Blood Advances, adding:

“Clonal hematopoiesis increases the risk of immune thrombocytopenia.

But what about autoimmune hemolytic anemia, another type of immune cytopenia?

Here we showed that autoimmune hemolytic anemia risk is increased by clonal hematopoiesis with the same order of magnitude as immune thrombocytopenia.

However, some clones, such as JAK2 conferring a high risk of immune thrombocytopenia, were not found in patients with autoimmune hemolytic anemia, suggesting the existence of immune cytopenia-specific risks.

Even larger cohorts will be needed to assess this point!
