Faheema Hasan: New ASH 2026 Guidelines Redefine Initial and Second-Line ITP Therapy
Faheema Hasan, Associate Professor at United Medicity, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Adam Cuker et al, published in Blood Advances, adding:
“ASH 2026 ITP update is finally here — after 7 long years and for all of us managing adult ITPs, it is exciting.
It’s exciting to see how closely it reflects what many of us have already been doing in practice over the last 4–5 years.
Like in other hematologic diseases, our treatment targets are evolving:
From simply achieving a ‘safe platelet count’, we are moving towards
- patient-centred outcomes
- better quality of life
- sustained remission, treatment-free remission and even cure
Take home:
- 2019 = Steroids first
- 2026 = Steroid-sparing, earlier.”
