David Reiner: Blood Tests That Can Reveal Nutrition Clues
David Reiner, Editor at The Health Accelerator, Specialist Anaesthetist at FANZCA, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Several common blood tests can reveal nutrition-related clues.
You don’t need to understand every medical term on a lab report to know what some common blood tests are checking.
Here’s a simple breakdown:
CBC
Looks at your blood cells and can provide clues about problems such as anemia.
Ferritin
Shows how much iron your body has stored. Low levels can be associated with tiredness, weakness, and reduced exercise capacity when iron deficiency is present.
Vitamin B12 with Folate
Helps assess nutrients your body needs for healthy blood cells, DNA production, and normal nervous system function.
Vitamin D
Helps determine whether your vitamin D level is adequate. Vitamin D plays an important role in bone, muscle and immune health.
Fasting glucose with HbA1c
Provides information about your blood sugar. Fasting glucose shows your level at the time of testing, while HbA1c gives a picture of your average blood sugar over the previous few months.
Lipid profile
Measures markers such as LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, which help assess cardiovascular health.
Electrolytes
Markers such as sodium and potassium help provide information about fluid balance, kidney function and normal body processes.
Blood tests can provide useful clues, but individual numbers need context.Your symptoms, medications, eating habits, medical history, and other test results all help determine what those numbers actually mean for you.
Understanding your results is a useful step toward understanding your health.”
