Jim Hoffman: Could NET Removal Help Restore Vascular Homeostasis?
Jim Hoffman, Former Technical Advisor at Cygnus Technologies, LLC, shared Eric Topol’s post on LinkedIn, adding:
“Why do we continue to ignore the role of impaired efferocytosis self-sufficiency and chronic low-grade NETosis dysfunction in contributing to vascular disease and atherosclerosis progression?
Instead of relying exclusively on the hopes of what is often suboptimal systemic drug administration with known side effects.
Perhaps we should try extracorporeal blood purification maintenance therapy and focus much greater attention on improving food nutritional supply and consumption to help boost metabolism and directly assist sicker patients in the removal of undigested cellular debris.
Especially, prothrombotic extracellular chromatin/NETs that are released into the blood, other body fluids, and tissues, to better protect vascular integrity and improve blood circulation and tissue perfusion in high-risk patients.
Removal of elevated levels of this circulating extracellular chromatin from the blood could help to potentially boost innate efferocytosis/phagocytic metabolism and self-sufficiency that is compromised in both progressive atheroma formation and in the tumor microenvironment, leading to increased tumor mass and metastasis.
What do cancer and heart disease have in common?”
Eric Topol, Founder and Director of Scripps Research Translational Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Genetics vs Clinical Context
