George Giannakoulas: NLR as a Predictor of Outcomes in Acute Coronary Syndromes

George Giannakoulas, Adjunct Associate Professor at Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine, Feinstein Institutes of Medical Research, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Coronary Artery Disease, adding:

“I am pleased to share our latest publication in Coronary Artery Disease: ‘Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and clinical outcomes across the acute coronary syndrome trajectory: insights from the CardioMining Study.’

Using data from 4,927 patients with acute coronary syndromes, we examined the prognostic value of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR)—a simple, inexpensive and routinely available marker of inflammation.

Higher NLR at admission was independently associated with:

  • Greater long-term all-cause mortality
  • More in-hospital complications
  • Longer hospital stays.

The study also reflects the ambition behind CardioMining: using artificial intelligence to harness real-world clinical data, answer meaningful cardiovascular research questions and generate evidence relevant to clinical practice.

Congratulations and thanks to all co-authors and collaborators for their contributions and continued commitment to CardioMining!”
