Agnes Kisakye: Expanding Point-of-Care Ultrasound and Surgical Interventions for Hemophilia in Uganda

Agnes Kisakye, Executive Director of Haemophilia Foundation of Uganda, Health Officer, EVD Response at Uganda Red Cross Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:

”Earlier today, the Medical Advisory Committee of the Haemophilia Foundation of Uganda engaged in a collaborative strategic meeting with the Department of Orthopaedics at Mulago National Referral Hospital to strengthen integrated care for haemophilia and other blood disorders.

Following successful specialized training supported by the World Federation of Hemophilia and the donation of a Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) machine, this dialogue focused on embedding routine hemophilia care and synovectomy protocols directly into standard hospital surgical schedules.

By establishing dedicated clinical windows and capacity to train additional surgeons, we are taking decisive steps to prevent irreversible joint complications, improve clinical outcomes, and secure long-term institutional sustainability for patients across Uganda.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the WFH for their unwavering support in empowering local clinicians and transforming patient outcomes.”
