Andrea Losito: For Stroke Survivors, Having a Community that Understands and Triumphs Can Make a Lasting Impact

Andrea Losito, Wellness Program Coordinator, Licensed Creative Arts Therapist III at NYC Health + Hospitals, shared on LinkedIn:

”There is something incredibly powerful about bringing people together to share experiences, support one another, and build meaningful connections.

For stroke survivors, having a community that understands the challenges and triumphs of recovery can make a lasting impact.

I was graciously invited to facilitate a collaborative art activity at the Stroke Thrivers Empowerment and Peer Support Group at South Brooklyn Health.

Participants started their own paintings, passed them around for contributions, and left with finished artworks that reflected group support and community.

This highlighted that healing goes beyond clinical care.

Thanks to Arielle Archibald for organizing this impactful group and inviting me—an inspiring display of resilience and camaraderie.

Special thanks to Caitlin Orban, Liliya Khasanova, Ariel Reich, Sandra Rua, Ketevan Berekashvili and Michael Saccone, Director of Marketing, South Brooklyn Health.

This experience was a wonderful reminder that healing extends beyond clinical care.

South Brooklyn Health’s commitment to creating opportunities for connection, engagement, and well-being reflects a truly patient-centered approach.”
