Christopher Pittman: Why You Have 3 ‘Hearts’
Christopher Pittman, Founder and Executive Chairman and Fellowship Program Director at Vein911 Vein Treatment Centers, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“You have three ‘hearts’.
One in your chest.
Two in your calves.
Most people don’t realize this.
Your heart pumps blood out.
But your calves help pump blood back up.
Every time you walk, your calf muscles squeeze the deep veins and push blood back toward the heart.
That’s your calf muscle pump.
- Heart
- Right calf
- Left calf
When that pump works well, your legs feel lighter.
When it doesn’t… blood and fluid can pool.
That can show up as:
- Heavy legs
- Ankle swelling
- Aching or burning
- Night cramps
- Fatigue at the end of the day
- Your calves aren’t just muscles.
They’re part of your circulation system.
And they matter more than most people think.
Do your legs feel better when you walk or move?
Do they feel worse after sitting or standing still for too long?”
