Deise Catamo Vaz Wins Merit Award for Raising Stroke Awareness in Mozambique
Deise Catamo Vaz, Student at University of the Algarve, shared on LinkedIn:
”I feel honored and blessed to announce the award of merit and scientific recognition that I won at the first scientific meeting on cardiovascular health in Mozambique, delivered by the Minister of Health of Mozambique.
This is for my doctoral work, which focuses on the importance of the problem of stroke and the improvement of in-hospital stroke care in the Maputo city, Mozambique.
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in Mozambique.
In one year, with minimal measures and based on experiences from neighboring countries such as Tanzania, we created a protocol and itinerary for stroke patients, thereby reducing mortality from 50% (2024) to 30% (2025), without thrombolysis and only with measures aimed at preventing complications in the acute phase.
It’s the beginning of a long journey!!!”
