Fernando Corrales-Medina: An Evidence-Based Platform Promoting Early Recognition and Evaluation of VWD
Fernando Corrales-Medina, Director of Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center, Miller School of Medicine at University of Miami, Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics,
Co-Director of Pediatric Hemophilia Treatment Center, Director of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program, shared on LinkedIn:
”Recurrent or prolonged epistaxis, especially since childhood, can be an early sign of an underlying bleeding disorder.
One of the most common causes is von Willebrand disease (VWD).
Frequent nosebleeds are minimized or attributed only to allergies, weather, or local irritation; too often, families are told ‘it’s normal’, leading to delayed diagnosis, unnecessary procedures, iron deficiency, anemia, anxiety, and reduced quality of life.
www.VWDtest.com is a free, evidence-based online platform designed to help patients, families, and healthcare providers recognize when a bleeding disorder, such as VWD, should be considered.
Increasing awareness of early bleeding symptoms is critical to closing the diagnosis gap.
I’m proud to collaborate with global experts in VWD to promote earlier recognition and appropriate evaluation worldwide.
Please share to help improve awareness and timely diagnosis.”
