“Blood Transfusion Essentials | Advancing Safe Bedside Practice
It was a privilege to serve as a Resource Person for the Blood Transfusion Essentials educational programme, organised by the Sri Lanka College of Transfusion Physicians, supporting healthcare professionals in strengthening their knowledge and confidence in safe transfusion practice.
The programme provided an opportunity to explore key aspects of bedside blood transfusion, including appropriate patient identification, blood component administration, monitoring, documentation, and the early recognition and management of transfusion reactions.
As healthcare professionals, safe transfusion is more than following a checklist – it requires clinical vigilance, effective communication, sound knowledge, and prompt action when complications arise.
Every transfusion is a clinical responsibility.
Every bedside check matters.
Every reaction requires prompt recognition and action.”
