Ghada Eladly: The Classic Triad of Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome

“Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS)
Definition: Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome characterized by microvascular thrombosis.
Classic Triad:
- MAHA: Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia.
- Thrombocytopenia: Platelet consumption.
- AKI: Acute kidney injury due to renal microthrombi.
- Pathophysiology: Endothelial injury → platelet activation → microthrombi formation.
- Common Cause: Shiga toxin–producing E. coli (post-diarrheal HUS).”
