Habib Bennaceur: Driving Haemoglobinopathies Progress Across Multiple Clinical Programmes At EHA 2026

Habib Bennaceur, Senior Vice President, Rare Disease at Novo Nordisk, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“As we return from Stockholm following the European Hematology Association Congress, I am struck by the energy, scientific exchange and sense of shared purpose across the haematology community.

For Novo Nordisk, EHA 2026 was an important opportunity to show the breadth of our long-term commitment to haemoglobinopathies – sharing progress across multiple clinical programmes, spanning all ages, and engaging with experts, advocates, and partners on what it will take to keep driving change for people affected by these diseases.

One theme really resonated for our team throughout the congress: scientific progress must remain grounded in the reality of people’s lives. That is why insights from our LISTEN survey are so important.

Based on experiences from more than 1,000 people across 17 countries, the findings help reframe our understanding of sickle cell disease from an episodic condition to a chronic, progressive and life-threatening one – with a daily burden that extends far beyond acute crises to ongoing fatigue, pain and toll of living with a disease that does not pause.

With World Sickle Cell Day approaching at the end of this week, I am encouraged by the progress being made – and even more determined to ensure that listening to the SCD community continues to guide the science, partnerships and action needed to improve lives.

Thank you to our Rare Disease team for your dedication and to everyone who connected with us in Stockholm!”
