Ilenia Calcaterra: Innovation In Rare Diseases Is Never Abstract
Ilenia Calcaterra, Consultant Physician in Internal Medicine and Assistant Professor at the University of Naples Federico II, shared on LinkedIn, adding:
”Today is Rare Disease Day.
I work actively in the field of rare diseases, where progress often depends on rigorous research, multidisciplinary collaboration, and responsible clinical decision-making.
This image captures a milestone in our clinical practice: in September 2024, we administered the first gene therapy for Hemophilia A in our center.
Innovation in rare diseases is never abstract.
It is built carefully, through evidence, integrity, and high standards especially when patient numbers are small and every decision carries weight.
Raising awareness matters.
Building reliable evidence matters even more.
In rare diseases, small numbers require higher standards not lower ones.”
