Mahesan Subramaniam: The Impact of Chronic Financial Stress and Instability on Cardiovascular Health
Dato Capt. Mahesan Subramaniam, Co-Founder of United Health Tourism, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at TRI International group, posted on LinkedIn:
“Recent studies have revealed that chronic financial stress or instability can damage cardiovascular health and accelerate biological aging more severely than traditional risk factors like high blood pressure or diabetes. Financial strain triggers chronic stress responses, leading to inflammation, poor health behaviors and a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.
To elaborate, unlike temporary stressors, financial strain is often persistent, leading to constant worry that causes high blood pressure and weakens the immune system. Studies also show that financial stress is linked to more advanced cardiovascular age, meaning the heart and blood vessels age faster than a person’s actual years.
Lack of funds also creates barriers to necessary care, resulting in poorer management of existing conditions. It often leads to housing instability, which can induce or worsen illness.
Financial strain is also highly associated with unhealthy coping mechanisms like smoking, alcohol dependence and poor dietary choices, which are major drivers of chronic illness.
Financial stress is not just one problem; it often causes a cascading effect on sleep, mental health and social relationships
Check out the comments section, I will put a few tips to help mitigate the health impacts of financial stress – it seems everyone in America is struggling right now… another piece of the puzzle as to why everyone is sick.
No pmid yet, studies are brand new. SOURCE.”
