Marilena Vrana: Insights from the Alpha-1 Alliance Event on Advancing Plasma Access in the EU
Marilena Vrana, Vice President at the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) Europe, shared on LinkedIn:
”Honoured to take part in the Alpha-1 Europe Alliance asbl event, hosted by MEP Olivier Chastel at the European Parliament.
Powerful patient stories and healthcare professionals insights on Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency highlighted a broader imperative: ensuring sustainable and equitable access to plasma-derived medicines for all patients across Europe.
From PPTA Europe perspective, one message is clear: achieving EU resilience and moving towards self-sufficiency in hashtag#plasma supply will require a truly collective effort.
Public, private and nonprofit collectors, healthcare professionals, patient communities, and policymakers all have a role to play.
This is particularly relevant in the context of implementing the EU SoHO Regulation.
Making its objectives a reality will depend on collaboration, aligned regulatory frameworks, and sustained investment, especially to scale up plasmapheresis capacity across all EU Member States.
Strengthening awareness, improving plasma collection capabilities, and coordinated action are essential steps to close the plasma supply gap and meet the real patient need.
Thank you to Flaminia Macchia for facilitating the discussion and to all panelists for this important exchange.”
