PALOP Coalition in Action: Practical Haemophilia Training in Angola – NNHF

Novo Nordisk Haemophilia and Haemoglobinopathies Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn:

PALOP coalition in action: practical haemophilia training in Angola

The NNHF-supported PALOP coalition, connecting African Countries with Portuguese as Official Language or Portuguese-speaking African countries, brings together Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde to strengthen haemophilia diagnosis, expand care and build regional collaboration.

This August, the collaboration continued in Luanda with the 2nd International Workshop on Haemophilia, hosted at the Dra. Victória do Espírito Santo Pediatric Hematology Institute.

The one-week training complemented the World Federation of Hemophilia  twinning programme between Angola and Brazil’s State University of Campinas, bringing together more than 20 healthcare professionals from Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Brazil for specialised training and multidisciplinary exchange. Participants included haematologists, paediatricians, laboratory technicians, nurses, dentists and physiotherapists.

As NNHF has expanded its support to include haemoglobinopathies, the training also strengthened healthcare professionals’ capacity in sickle cell disease management. Thank you to Dr Bruno Benites, haemotherapist from State University of Campinas, for providing specialised training on red blood cell exchange, erythrocytapheresis.

This coalition is a strong example of how existing partnerships, shared language and regional learning can help strengthen care across borders.
