Obi Light Ogbonnia: Improving Outcomes for People Living with Sickle Cell Disease in Nigeria

Obi Light Ogbonnia, Founder and President of Sickle Cell Foundation and Chief Executive Officer at VTN Global Resources Limited, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Improving Outcomes for People Living with Sickle Cell Disease in Nigeria

I was privileged to participate in an important panel discussion at the 50th NSHBT_Official Annual Conference 2026 in Abuja, anchored by Prof. Obiageli Nnodu, with Prof. Iheanyi Okpala and myself, as panellists.

We explored the urgent need to bridge the gap between SCD policies and actual service delivery, particularly in diagnosis, comprehensive care, affordability, continuity of care and patient support.

The key message was clear:

It is not enough to have policies and innovations. Proven care must reach every patient consistently, affordably and equitably.

Patients must also have a meaningful voice in shaping the policies and healthcare services that affect their lives.

My appreciation to Novo Nordisk.”
