Robert Lufkin: Stop Eating 3 Hours Before Bed
Robert Lufkin, Advisor of Metabolic Health and Longevity Expert, shared post on LinkedIn:
“New in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology:
A Northwestern team led by Dr. Phyllis Zee ran a 7.5-week controlled trial showing that closing the kitchen 3 hours before bed — and dimming the lights then too — lowered nighttime BP 3.5 percent and resting heart rate about 5 percent.
Daytime glucose and insulin response also improved.
Study design:
39 overweight adults, ages 36 to 75, randomized to stop eating and dim lights 3 hours before bed (extending the overnight fast to 13-16 hours) or keep usual habits. No calorie cutting.
Caveats:
Small n=39, single center, surrogate endpoints, not yet replicated.
Today’s drop:
finish your last bite 3 hours before bed and dim the lights then too. One change. No diet rules.
Metabolic tie-in:
Nighttime eating under bright light desynchronizes the circadian and metabolic clocks. Realigning them moved BP, HR, and glucose without changing what they ate.
Full breakdown coming on the Health Longevity Secrets podcast.”
