Samwel Mikaye: Advancing the Global Fight Against Postpartum Hemorrhage
Samwel Mikaye, Medical Doctor at MSK, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”I had the privilege of attending the Inaugural International Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) Conference 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya-a remarkable gathering of global experts, policymakers, researchers, and healthcare professionals committed to saving mothers’ lives.
One message stood out throughout the conference: postpartum hemorrhage remains one of the leading causes of preventable maternal deaths worldwide, yet no woman should die while giving life.
The conversations reinforced that ending PPH is not only a clinical responsibility but also a political and global health priority.
We must move beyond hospital walls and place maternal health at the center of the global political agenda.
Investments in evidence-based interventions, equitable access to quality obstetric care, healthcare workforce training, and stronger health systems are essential if we are to eliminate preventable deaths from PPH.
Every mother deserves a safe childbirth experience, regardless of where she lives.
Preventing and managing PPH should not be a privilege—it should be a global commitment.
The time to act is now. Together, we can make preventable maternal deaths from postpartum hemorrhage a thing of the past.”
