Sharlene Haywood: Bringing Multidisciplinary Learning Into Nursing Practice
Sharlene Haywood, Mohn Senior Research Fellow at Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Reflecting on our first collaborative study bringing together sepsis, blood transfusion, venous thrombosis prevention and, of course, nutrition.
Including the eat drink dress move (EDDM) initiative and human factors, drawing out the rounded nature of nursing.
This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
Patients rarely present with a single clinical need, yet our training often focuses on one issue at a time.
Our aim was to strengthen critical thinking across multiple, and sometimes competing care requirements.
The day did not disappoint, it was full of learning and laughter!
I was reminded of the fundamental foundation of nutrition awareness, and it’s role in optimising health and care.
I’m looking forward to working with Dale Castellano, Rechie Banderado, Leah Fulgar, Julie Padbury and Victoria Layton again, and hope to extend this approach to other services.
When we breakdown silos we foster dynamic, inclusive, learning and care.”
