Teresa Buzzoni: AABB 2026 Through the Eyes of a Newcomer to the Blood Industry

“It was AABBsolutely rad in Atlanta this weekend!
I was thrilled to attend the 2026 Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB) Annual Meeting with The Blood Connection.
As someone relatively new to the blood industry, I knew I had a lot to learn—and there was no better place to do it than alongside professionals pushing the field forward.
From exploring emerging technologies, like rapid cold-storage platelet freezing, to fielding challenging questions about our work at The Blood Connection, I left with new perspectives, a deeper appreciation for the complexity of our industry, and plenty to think about.
A few takeaways I’ll bring with me to next year’s meeting:
- Invest in comfortable shoes. Your feet will thank you after a full day of learning and networking.
- Give yourself more time than you think you need. A little extra time between sessions can make all the difference.
- Make room to recharge. If you’re more introverted like me, building in time for yourself helps you show up fully for the next conversation.
- Listen to everyone. One of my biggest takeaways was the importance of giving every person the same respect and attention, regardless of their title. You never know what you might learn from the person standing next to you.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from such knowledgeable people across the industry and excited to bring these perspectives back to my work at The Blood Connection.
