Ibtesam Alsufyani on RBC Exchange: A Life-Saving Apheresis Procedure
Ibtesam Alsufyani, Resident Laboratory Specialist, Blood Bank and Transfusion at Jazan Health Cluster, shared on LinkedIn:
”RBC Exchange… A Life-Saving Apheresis Procedure
Today, I’d like to share a brief highlight about one of the most advanced procedures in transfusion medicine: Red Blood Cell (RBC) Exchange using Apheresis technology.
RBC Exchange is a therapeutic procedure that replaces a patient’s red blood cells with healthy donor cells while maintaining blood volume and hemodynamic stability.
It plays a crucial role in managing conditions such as:
• Sickle Cell Disease
• Severe transfusion reactions
• High levels of pathological hemoglobin
• Certain toxicities and rare hematologic disorders
What makes RBC Exchange remarkable is its ability to rapidly improve patient outcomes while minimizing complications, thanks to precise control of blood components throughout the procedure.
With the continuous advancement of Apheresis systems, the process has become even safer and more efficient.
Proud of the vital role that Blood Bank teams play in delivering such advanced, life-changing patient care.”
