A Neonatal 1st: Shocking Intracardiac Thrombosis Tied to Maternal aCL Antibodies
APS Support UK recently shared a thought-provoking post on X:
”First reported case of neonatal intracardiac thrombosis linked to transplacental transfer of maternal aCL antibodies. Highlights importance of aPL testing in unusual Neonatal Thrombosis. Case study only; not representative of all OAPS patients.”
To read the case report follow here.
A striking case study has emerged reporting the first documented instance of neonatal intracardiac thrombosis associated with transplacental transfer of maternal anticardiolipin (aCL) antibodies.
This rare presentation underscores the critical need to consider antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) testing in cases of unexplained or atypical neonatal thrombosis.
It is important to note that this remains a single case and should not be generalized to all Obstetric Antiphospholipid Syndrome (OAPS) presentations, however, such reports serve as valuable reminders of the potential consequences of undiagnosed aPL positivity.
