Alessandra Bosch: Swiss Medical Weekly Publishes National Guidance on Desmopressin for Bleeding Disorders
Alessandra Bosch, Clinician Scientist at University of Zurich, shared a post on LinkedIn abouta recent article she and her colleagues co-authored, published in Swiss Medical Weekly, adding:
“The Swiss guidance on desmopressin (DDAVP) has now been published in Swiss Medical Weekly!
The paper provides practical guidance on the use of desmopressin in non-severe Haemophilia A, von Willebrand Disease, mild Platelet Function Disorders and BDUC bleeding disorders of unknown cause.
Key practical points:
- DDAVP can be used to treat or prevent bleeding.
- BUT: The response cannot be predicted from baseline FVIII and VWF levels.
- A desmopressin trial is recommended to verify tolerability and identify responders.
- Guidance covers dosing, fluid restriction, monitoring and interpretation, including paediatric specifics.
