Amir Hossien Esfandiari։ The Association Between Viral Infections and Aplastic Anemia
Amir Hossien Esfandiari, Master of Medical Virology at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, adding:
”Happy to share our lates publication in title of ‘The association between viral infections and aplastic anemia: a comprehensive scoping review’ which was recently published in Critical Reviews in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
The present manuscript is the first to systematically evalaute the association between different viral infections and aplastic anemia.
The present review evaluates the pathophysiological mechanisms connecting various viruses to aplastic anemia and assesses current therapeutic strategies for managing virus-associated cases.
We evalute several key pathogens implicated in aplastic anemia, including parvovirus B19, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, HIV, hepatitis viruses, and SARS-CoV-2.
The review outlines the main mechanisms involved, such as direct bone marrow suppression, immune-mediated destruction, and viral reactivation during immunosuppression, and highlights that antiviral therapies and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation are the primary treatments, with virological monitoring being essential.”
