Alessio De Rose: Addressing Micronutrient Deficiencies in the Era of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists
Alessio De Rose, Nutrition Manager at S.S. Lazio, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Nutrients, adding:
“I am thrilled to share our recently published article in Nutrients:
‘Ironing Out Possible Micronutrient Deficiencies Associated with Incretin Receptor Agonist-Based Therapies: Proposed Practical Strategies to Prevent and Manage Iron Deficiency’
Incretin receptor agonist-based therapies, including GLP-1 receptor agonists and dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists, have significantly changed the management of type 2 diabetes, overweight, and obesity.
As their clinical use continues to expand, it is becoming increasingly important to consider not only their metabolic benefits, but also their potential nutritional implications.
In this perspective article, we discuss emerging evidence on the possible association between incretin-based therapies and iron deficiency/iron deficiency anemia, explore the potential underlying mechanisms, and propose practical strategies for prevention, biochemical monitoring, and clinical-nutritional management.
This work highlights the importance of integrating pharmacological innovation with careful nutritional assessment and individualized patient care.
I am grateful to all co-authors and collaborators for their valuable contribution to this work.”
