Ana Pedrero Gil: Why Factor XIII Deficiency Is Often Overlooked During Acute Bleeding
Ana Pedrero Gil, Anesthesiologist at Igualada University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Cristina Alomar-Dominguez et al., published in Thrombosis Research, adding:
“In clinical practice, FXIII deficiency is therefore often overlooked during acute bleeding due to the limited availability of rapid FXIII assays and the inability of routine tests and standard viscoelastic methods to reliably detect reduced FXIII activity.
As a consequence, FXIII substitution is either delayed until laboratory results become available or omitted altogether, particularly within mass transfusion protocols which typically prioritize fibrinogen and prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC).”
