Ashkan Shoamanesh: Factor XI Inhibition and the Future of Antithrombotic Therapy
Ashkan Shoamanesh, Associate Professor of Medicine (Neurology), Marta and Owen Boris Chair in Stroke Research and Care at McMaster University, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in NEJM Group, adding:
”The OCEANIC-STROKE results published in NEJM Group last week advance the promise of factor XI/XIa inhibition as a new paradigm in antithrombotic therapy.
In discussion with HCP Live Cardiology, we explore what these findings mean for patients with non-cardioembolic stroke or high-risk TIA – particularly asundexian’s ability to reduce ischemic stroke risk without increasing bleeding.
Beyond stroke, FXI inhibition may have broader implications across cardiovascular disease, where the balance between thrombosis and bleeding has long constrained progress.
Very grateful to contribute to this evolving chapter in secondary prevention alongside my colleagues.”
