David C. Madoff: HCC With Portal Vein Tumor Thrombosis East vs West

David C. Madoff, Interventional Oncologist at Yale School of Medicine, shared a post on X about recent article by Rong Yan et al, published in Springer Nature Link, adding:

“Hot off the press in Current Oncology Reports!

As the Interventional Oncology Section Editor, I am pleased to share our latest review, ‘Interventional Management of Patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Portal Vein Tumor Thrombosis: Are There Differences Between East and West?’ by Rong Yan, Tong Sun, Jian Lu, and Gao Jun Teng.

The management of HCC with portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) remains challenging and continues to evolve in the era of modern systemic therapy.

This timely review examines important differences between Eastern and Western approaches, including the roles of TACE, HAIC, Y 90 radioembolization, radiotherapy, portal vein stenting, and iodine 125 seed based endovascular brachytherapy.

An important theme is that systemic therapy remains the backbone of treatment, while interventional therapies may have an important role in carefully selected patients as part of a multidisciplinary treatment strategy.

Congratulations to the authors on this excellent and timely contribution!”
