Georgia R Layton Presents a Unique Case of Chronic Total Aortic Occlusion
Georgia R Layton, Associate Surgical Specialty Lead for Cardiac Surgery at The Royal College of Surgeons of England, shared on LinkedIn:
”Read this unique case of chronic total aortic occlusion in a patient referred to us for CABG in JACC Journals here.
With thanks to all collaborators for their input Ajaay Shrinivas, Ibrahim Antoun, Hiwa Sherzad, Marios Patronis, Mustafa Zakkar.”
The internal mammary artery is frequently used as a graft during coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG), but in some patients, undiagnosed vascular issues may make its use risky.
Performing a CT aortogram in selected patients helps ensure proper conduit selection and prevents potential perioperative complications.
Given the possibility of complex anatomical variations, coronary management should be tailored through a multidisciplinary approach rather than relying solely on standard guidelines.
