Heghine Khachatryan on New Insights Into Bleeding Mechanisms in Acquired Hemophilia A
Heghine Khachatryan, Editor-in-Chief of Hemostasis Today, Head of Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, reposted from RPTH Journal on LinkedIn:
”New insights into bleeding mechanisms in acquired hemophilia A
A recent publication in Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis (RPTH) highlights an often under-recognized contributor to bleeding severity in acquired hemophilia A (AHA): platelet function abnormalities.
The study demonstrates that beyond FVIII inhibitors, transient but clinically relevant platelet aggregation defects may be present during the acute phase of AHA and can improve in remission.
These findings help explain why bleeding severity does not always correlate with FVIII levels alone.
Why this matters clinically:
• Reinforces the concept that AHA is a multifactorial bleeding disorder
• Supports broader hemostatic assessment in complex bleeding cases
• Encourages individualized management beyond factor replacement
Congratulations to the authors for advancing our understanding of the interplay between coagulation and platelet function in rare bleeding disorders.”
Quoting RPTH Journal‘s post:
”Platelet dysfunction in acquired hemophilia A
Acquired hemophilia A (AHA) presents with a bleeding pattern distinct from inherited hemophilia, yet the contribution of platelet function abnormalities has remained poorly explored.
Bleeding patterns in AHA differ from inherited hemophilia and may involve platelet dysfunction
δ storage pool disease was identified in several patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance
Acquired platelet abnormalities may contribute to bleeding severity in AHA
