Jim Kaveney: Class I, Level A – Lifestyle is Now the Official Standard in AFib Care
Jim Kaveney, Founder of Unlimited Heart Health and Wellness, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I’ve been saying it on this show for a while…
Weight management. Physical activity. Alcohol moderation. Blood pressure control. Smoking cessation.
As of 2026, it’s now official. The American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, and the Heart Rhythm Society have written these five lifestyle targets into the formal quality measures that cardiologists and health systems are graded on.
Lifestyle management is no longer a nice-to-have in AFib care. It’s the standard.
And the evidence grade behind it?
Class I, Level A. The same tier as anticoagulation for stroke prevention.
This week on Beat by Beat, we break down what the new measures actually say, the decade-plus of trial evidence behind them, and — importantly — an honest caveat about what in that evidence base is truly independent and what isn’t.
We also cover two quality measures that don’t get enough attention:
- QM6: shared decision-making between rate and rhythm control is now an official standard. Your voice belongs in that conversation.
- QM1: guideline-directed care shouldn’t quietly depend on your zip code or your insurance status.
These are the standards.
They’re the floor.
Not the ceiling.
