“What if the coronary plaques that matter most are not always the ones causing the greatest obstruction?
Non-obstructive plaques can still be lipid-rich, biologically active, and clinically relevant.
In the YELLOW III sub-study, intensive lipid-lowering therapy with evolocumab plus statins reduced lipid-rich plaque components and was accompanied by a modest improvement in coronary physiology.
AI-based OCT helped connect changes in plaque composition with functional remodeling.
The findings raise an intriguing question: could treating plaque biology be just as important as treating stenosis?”
