Johnson Mak: We Figure Out How SARS-CoV-2 Induces Thrombosis
Johnson Mak, Professor at Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics, Griffith University, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in bioRxiv, adding:
”Excited to share our latest work by Ablikim Bake et al.
We figure out how SARS-CoV-2 induces thrombosis, and it turns out to be glycan (sialic acid) but NOT protein.
We have used state-of-the-art 3D EM (see movie) to show viral particles are trapped within the invaginated structure in platelets, making platelets as Trojan horse to delay virus clearance in convalescent patients.”
