Leonardo Roever: The Emerging Role of the TyHGB Index in Predicting New-Onset Stroke

Leonardo Roever, CEO of Brazilian Evidence-Based Health Network, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by AoMen Lu and Qian Xu , published in Lipids in Health and Disease, adding:

”Association between the triglyceride-HDL-glucose-body index and the risk of recent-onset stroke: a prospective cohort study

Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and disability in China.

Insulin resistance (IR) is a crucial modifiable risk factor.

Although the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a recognized surrogate marker for IR, it ignores the protective role of HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) and the impact of obesity (BMI).

The new TyHGB index integrates triglycerides, fasting glucose, HDL-C, and BMI, offering a comprehensive metabolic profile.

Long-term elevated patterns and the cumulative burden of the TyHGB index are independent risk factors for recent-onset stroke.

The identification of an inflection point derived from the RCS (25,76) serves as a useful population-level reference value.

The TyHGB index provides incremental value compared to the isolated TyG index in risk stratification, highlighting the importance of dynamic metabolic monitoring for stroke prevention.”
