Michael Hadley: SCOT-HEART 2 Trail Could Transform How We Think About Identifying Those at Risk of Heart Attacks
Michael Hadley, System Director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging at Northwell Health, shared on LinkedIn:
”The SCOT-HEART 2 trail could transform how we think about identifying those at risk of heart attacks.
This ongoing study is randomizing asymptomatic individuals ages 40-70 with 1 or more risk factors for heart disease to either Coronary CTA or standard care, with appropriate therapies, and following for a primary outcome of heart attack.
If the trial is positive, guidelines could recommend broader CT screening of asymptomatic adults, allowing us to detect and treat coronary disease earlier to prevent more heart attacks.
To prepare, we need to model out what a positive trial could mean for patient volumes and what it would take to meet that need.”
