Naung Latt Htun: High Clinical Suspicion in Acquired Hemophilia A is Essential
Naung Latt Htun, Internal Medicine Doctor at Ministry of Health Brunei Darussalam, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
”Excited to share that our latest case report has been published in Cureus Journal of Medical Science!
Acquired Hemophilia A (AHA) Associated With Malignancy and Antiphospholipid Antibodies: Two Case Reports With Distinct Etiologies
In this paper, we present two rare and clinically challenging cases of AHA – an uncommon but potentially life-threatening autoimmune bleeding disorder caused by factor VIII inhibitors.
Key highlights:
- AHA can present with unexplained bleeding and isolated prolonged aPTT
- Underlying causes can be diverse – including malignancy, autoimmune conditions, and infections
- Coexistence with antiphospholipid antibodies creates a complex paradox of bleeding vs thrombosis
- Early recognition and a dual management approach (bleeding control plus inhibitor eradication) are critical
These cases emphasize the importance of maintaining a high index of suspicion when evaluating unexplained bleeding, especially in patients with comorbid conditions.
Proud to have worked with an excellent team on this publication!”
