Orly Leiva: High-Output Heart Failure Signals Disease Progression in PV and ET
Orly Leiva, Cardio-Oncology and Pulmonary Hypertension Cardiologist, Assistant Professor at University of Kentucky College of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in International Cardio-Oncology Society Cardio-Oncology, adding:
“Proud to share our latest research paper in International Cardio-Oncology Society Cardio-Oncology on high-output HF in PV/ET.
High-output HF is classically associated with MPNs. Our prior work in MF demonstrated an association with elevated estimated cardiac output on echocardiography with worse outcomes. However, ET and PV patients have different pathophysiology and clinical characteristics.
In this study we characterized patients with ET or PV by echocardiographic cardiac output and pulmonary artery pressures (both normal, elevated cardiac output alone, elevated PASP alone or elevated cardiac index and PASP [high-output HF]).
We demonstrated an association between increased risk of ET or PV progression to MF or leukemia among those with HOHF and elevated PASP alone compared to normal hemodynamics.
Additionally, we demonstrated a correlation between echocardiographic cardiac output and driver mutation variant allele burden.”
